Nelson Art and Crafts
Nelson has a well established art and craft scene with a superb collection of fine artists, contemporary jewellers, glass blowers, ceramic and textile artists.
Nelson's art scene is well known for highly original quality works and your host Yvonne Trathen & daughter Amy are both artists of merit.
The World of Wearable Art Gallery and Antique Car Museum Complex are just 12 minutes by car. Here you can see costumes on display from previous shows and something for the boys - collectable cars on show.
The Suter Art Gallery is very close by and holds regular exhibitions from established and emerging artists.
Nelson Wines
Nelson is the country's eighth largest wine region. Nelson vineyards concentrate on grape varieties suited to cooler conditions, with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir accounting for over 80% of the grapes grown.
Nelson Adventure Activities
Adventure activities include kayaking, tramping, cycling, deer hunting, white water rafting, fly fishing and skiing. The world famous Abel Tasman National Park provides excellent day or overnight walking along the golden beaches.
We also have two other National Parks, the Nelson Lakes National Park where kiwis (our native flightless bird) are being re-released and our newest National Park - Kahaurangi - home to the beautiful and famous Heaphy Hiking Track.
There are a number of golf courses close by including the Matai Golf Course, only a matter of moments up the Matai Valley. They have hire clubs available for those spur of the moment jaunts.
We can recommend and book day trips and tours to suit your interests. Whatever your passion, Nelson has a lot to offer you!
